Smarter - Urban Class
Friction Group
The friction group is divided into 4 sub-division and it involves 3 students.
Wheel & Transmission
For Transmission a Chain drive is chosen after considering features like efficiency, wear resistance, oil resistance, ease of maintenance and many more features. A comparison with other available drives like belt and gear are done before a final conclusion was made. The sprockets may be manufactured in aluminium.
The wheels as per regulation needed to be 16/17 inches. Considering factors like rolling resistance, weight etc we decided to use a 16 inch. The wheel comprises of rim and tires. The rims to be used will probably be light weight if the carbon fiber wheels are manufactured on time, if no back wheels will be used. Michelin eco-tires will be used.
Brakes
The vehicle with brakes will be tested on a 20% inclination where it needs to be immobile. Smarter is equipped with brake calipers from a Bike with 2 master cylinder. The front and the rear brakes are operated separately with a pedal.
Steering
A steering system with an Ackermann condition is used. The steering spindles and other parts are manufactured from aluminium. As per rules a steering wheel need to be incorporated in the vehicle, so an already available steering wheel in the market is chosen.
