SteerDroidsIn SteerDroids you build a robot with different parts, equipping it with preferably light tools. You then play through a level trying to get past obstacles with the help of the tools and finish as quick as possible since your score depends on the speed and lightness of your robot.
|
Project descriptionThe initial concept idea was to create a game tailored for an exhibition. By this the aim was to construct the game so that many people can gather around it and also participate in play. It should also be possible to join and leave at any point during the game, since not everyone may be able to play through a whole level even if a level is quite short to allow quick games. |
Program demonstrationThe object of the whole experience that is SteerDroids, is to at first build a creation with the editor on a touch screen by using the hands and putting together robot parts. The results of this phase will then be of essence when putting the newly-built robot into the game world and testing it by trying to play through a level as quickly as possible. The lighter the robot is, the faster it will be able to get around. However, there is a catch - every part that can be put on the robot will aid the robot when trying to get past obstacles in a level. The tricky part will then be to have the least parts as possible, but still get through the obstacles fast enough! |
Media presentationFollowing below is two presentations, the first held mid-way through the project process and the second a month later, and also some sketches and screenshots from the development of the game.
|
Game downloadationHere you can download the files required to run the game. It can be played with a mouse and keyboard or gamepad. Instructions can be found in the ".zip"-file, just download it and double-click it to be able to read the instructions. |
Technical specificationTo gain full user experience, the editor is best used with a touch screen as interface. The game can be played with a regular game controller but is only tested with a Xbox 360 wired controller. Minimum requirements will be present when stated. |
ExhibitionThank you all for coming and trying out SteerDroids at the IDXPO exhibition in Nordstan! Since we got the highscore working by the weekend, here are the top 10 results of the robots created on Saturday and Sunday:
Congratulations to EMMANUL and AVIGNY for placing first! |
