Body Blob
And why?
- More play space
- Full-body interaction
- Challenging gameplay
We hereby give you Body Blob. Twister has now been brought to another level!
The site you have stumbled upon is the web presence of an interactive project that proposes a new type of play. And no, however attractive the idea, it is not a tribute to The Blob.
about
MSc. in Interaction Design Exhibition '10
IDXPO is the name of this year’s student exhibition ending the course Interaction Design Project at the Interaction Design master programme at Chalmers. Thirteen projects have been put together, combining the physical world, games, and concepts into brand new experiences. Touch, wear, connect, and play, on floors, walls and tables at this four day exhibition at the ground floor of Lindholmen Science Park.
Project concept
Body Blob is an installation that tracks a player's body and makes it part of the an interactive game. The player has to use his body image to cover certain circles on the screen in order to gain points. The game supports multiplayer mode. The levels behind the game have been created in order to make players test their physical flexibility. At the end of the game, we give the opportunity of taking away a stop-motion short movie of yourself doing different poses.
Future plans
Now that the expo is over we are looking forward to any opportunity that comes along to extend this project. If you have an idea you'd like to share please do write.
Bear hugs

These are some of the pics we took while working on this project. You can get a better idea of our design methods and our intended setup as you browse. If you have any questions feel free to ask here.
The expo went down beautifully. We had loads of fun presenting the project and tweaking the last details on it. One thing we would like to say: sorry to all the nice folks that had to wear the "dress" in order to be caught by the cameras. Messy technology these IR things. Alsooo, don't forget to check out all the other lovely projects that were part of the exhibition.
Kicking off the whole shebang with a playtesting of 3 ideas. In the end there was one. One to rule them all.
And there was play. In the end. A few brave people challenge each other and make it through the blobs.
As part of the installation we took stop motion videos of the players, which they could send to their emails. This is a compilation of most of the videos taken. Again huge thankyous go to everyone who came by and played Body Blob.
