"Illuminating absence" is a project about inspiration and change, inspired by an "opposite" view of a library. By shedding light on what regular people borrow in the library, we hope to inspire people into finding interest in new media, as well as providing a visualization of the flow of books from and to the library. We also wanted to make something being nice to look at and acting as a soft contrast to the sometimes rigid feeling of a library. The information is presented in a colorful but gentle and non-obtrusive way, and our vision is that people can watch for as long as they want to get inspiration, and thereafter ask a librarian for more information about something they have caught interest in. We want to open up the eyes of the visitors and show the lent out books in a another way than just empty spaces in the shelves. They are the cornerstone of the library but are forgotten as soon as they disappear out of the library, and is only noticed again when the library registers the book has been returned or is called back due to exceeding the last date for returning it.

"Illuminating absence" är ett projekt som kretsar kring inspiration och förändring, inspirerad av ett "tvärtom" synsätt på ett bibliotek. Genom att belysa vad gemene man lånar på ett bibliotek så är vår förförhoppning att inspirera människor att bli intresserad av nya media såväl som visualisera mediaflödet till och från biblioteket. Media presenteras på ett färgglatt sätt, men ändå mjukt och utan att vara påträngande. Vår vision är att folk ska kunna betrakta vår skapelse så länge de vill för att få inspiration, och därefter ta hjälp av en biblotikarie för att få mer information om något som fångat deras intresse. Vi vill öppna besökarnas ögon och visa de utlånade böckerna är mer än bara tomma hyllplatser. Böckerna är bibliotekets hörnstenar, men glöms bort så fort de försvinner från biblioteket och märks först igen när den återlämnas eller eftersöks på grund av att sista återlämningsdatumet passerats.
